James C. Hinman died July 21, 2015. He was born in Rockwell, Iowa, on February 9, 1919, to Bridget Gaffney Hinman and James Clifford Hinman. He was married for 63 years to the late Marjorie Walters Hinman. His sister, Nina Hinman Slocum, predeceased him. Jim served in the Navy during WW II, and retired from active service after 27 years. Later he worked for P & D Transportation Services in Newport. Jim was an exceptional athlete, story teller, and sportsman. A crack shot, he loved spending time with friends hunting at Lake Parmacini in Maine. He was a member of the Tiverton Rod & Gun Club. Jim enjoyed coin collecting and was a past president of the Newport Coin Club. A life-long Yankee fan, he had recently joined the Red Sox Nation, watching all their televised games. Jim is survived by his daughter, Julia Weeks and his son-in-law, Sinclair Weeks, a grandson, Matthew Weeks, a granddaughter, Emma Weeks, and his cat, Molly. Services are private.
