Phyllis T. Krause passed away on November 16, 2017 at age 87 after a brief illness.  She was raised in Dorchester, MA and lived for 48 years in Belmont, MA.  Phyllis was married to Dave Krause on Valentine’s Day in 1953, shortly after graduating Lesley College.  She worked for 23 years as an educator in the Waltham, Belmont, and Wellesley Public Schools, during which she was a classroom teacher, and after receiving her Masters in Education at Boston University, became a school librarian and administrator.  At age 53 she retired from teaching to pursue her lifelong dream of being a nurse, and graduated from Youville School of Nursing.  She specialized in geriatric care, and the last ten years of her nursing career were spent caring for Alzheimer’s patients.

While raising her two children, Michael and Linda, and working as a teacher, she was also active in scouting, church, and other family and volunteer pursuits. She and Dave led a rich life filled with friends, dancing, and travel.  They particularly liked to visit New Orleans, and spent many happy years at their little place in Kennebunk, Maine.

After her second retirement, Phyllis was determined to remain active and giving.  She took care of a small boy in Belmont, and volunteered at Perkins School for the Blind, Regis College, and the Belmont Senior Center.  She had previously been an early member of the Aids Action Committee in Boston.

Phyllis was a strong woman with a giving heart who loved to laugh.  She sowed many seeds of growth and opportunity throughout her life, and the world is a better place for it.  She will be dearly missed.  Visiting hours on Sunday, November 19, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. in the Short, Williamson & Diamond Funeral Home, 52 Trapelo Road, Belmont.  Private burial  on Monday, November 20 at Forest Hills Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations gratefully accepted in her honor by MSPCA, 350 S. Huntington Ave., Jamaica Plain, MA 02130.  www.swdfuneralhome .com

Linda and Michael,
I'm so sad to hear about your mom's passing....I have many fond memories of sitting in the kitchen talking and was always impressed by Phyllis's easy laughter.
Sending hugs across the country to you both.

With love,
Karen
