I am a doctoral student at University of North Florida and earned my Ed. M. at HGSE in 1994.  I never studied under Dr. Fischer but I currently research adolescent brain development and spent my teaching career working with middle school students.  I am heartbroken to learn of his passing and wish his family, colleagues and students peace and love.  The world is a better place for the work and research of Dr. Kurt Fischer.

Kurt and I were graduate students together; he was on year ahead of me. We all looked up to Kurt as the visionary, big-picture scientist we all aspired to become. He continued that leadership throughout his career. Many years ago, he saw the potential of a bold integration between Cognitive Psychology, Neuroscience and Education, which has continued to this day. He was a wonderful colleague and a generous human being.

Not only was Kurt a warm and supportive mentor to me at Harvard, but he also helped me develop and publicize my work on literacy and successful dyslexics for many years afterward. I will always be grateful to Kurt! My sincere condolences to Jane and the whole family.
Fondly,
Rosalie Fink
