Anne Weller Hughes of Belmont, MA peacefully passed away on May 26, 2025. She was surrounded by those who love her.
Anne was born on September 5, 1929 to Isabelle McCarthy Weller and Walter C. Weller. She graduated from Belmont High School in 1947. She attended Wheaton College in Norton, MA where she earned a Bachelor of Science in zoology in 1951. At Wheaton she made lifelong friends and one of them introduced her to her future husband, Robert P. Hughes.
In 1953 Anne and Bob were married in St. Joseph’s Church in Belmont. Together they had three wonderful children and were married for 67 years. Anne felt that being a full-time mother was her calling. She shared her love of reading and learning with her children and found great pride in their accomplishments.
Anne returned to school to study library science when her children were older. She went on to serve as librarian at the Belmont Waverly Branch library, welcoming each patron with her warmth and her enthusiasm for books. Her life was enriched by the many new friends she made through her work.
One of the great joys in her later years was becoming a grandmother to Isabel and watching her blossom.
Anne had a positive outlook on life and a beautiful smile. She continued to make a loving impact on others at every stage of her life.
Anne is survived by her daughter Laura Hughes and son-in-law William Rodriguez of Acton, MA; daughter Emily Hughes of Oakland, CA and granddaughter Isabel Rodriguez of Acton, MA. She was predeceased by her husband Robert and son Walter.
