DeORIO, Edith A. (Maresca) of Belmont, entered into rest on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 in the Country Center Nursing and Rehabilitation in Newburyport. She was 96 years of age. Born in Boston, Edith lived in Belmont for many years. She was a bookkeeper by profession having retired many years ago. Edith had the distinction of being the first female to be able to play softball on an all men's softball league. She also had a strong passion for the Boston Red Sox, watching all the games and having the ability to name all the players. Edith was also very fastidious about her appearance. She was known to be up to date about the latest apparel available. a Beloved wife of the late William P. DeOrio. Dear and devoted mother of William A. DeOrio and his wife, Marilyn of Salisbury. Sister of the late Betty Romeo, David Maresca, Mary Richards, Richard Maresca and George Maresca. Loving grandmother of Craig M. DeOrio and his wife, Elise; Danielle P. DeOrio and Christopher McCabe; and Christopher J. DeOrio and his wife, Tamara and loving great-grandmother of Mateo, Lorenzo, Trey and Sofia DeOrio and Adeline and Charlotte McCabe. Edith is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Edith’s visiting hours in the Short, Williamson & Diamond Funeral Home, 52 Trapelo Rd., BELMONT, Tuesday, Feb. 23 from 5-8 p.m. Her funeral will be from the funeral home on Wednesday at 8 a.m. followed by her funeral Mass in St. Joseph’s Church, 130 Common St., Belmont, at 9 o’clock.
