Evelyn Shanks Stigger Wyman

Evelyn Shanks Stigger Wyman passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. She was born on April 22, 1933 in Nutley, New Jersey to Robert M. Shanks and Mildred (Kingdom) Shanks.

She was predeceased by her parents and her nephew, Robert Stephen Shanks. She is survived by her brother, Robert Shanks, Acton, ME; nephew Richard Scott Shanks (Deborah) Barre, MA; David Alan Shanks (Marie) Williston, VT; and Karen Shanks (Robert Stephen Shanks), North Grafton, MA.

Born in Nutley, New Jersey, and raised in Massachusetts, her family moved around a lot in the early days. Evelyn went to school in Medford until high school, when the family moved to Stoneham for her high school years. She graduated from Stoneham High School in 1951, and graduated from Lasalle Jr. College in 1953 with an associates degree in Marketing Management.

She enjoyed jazz and reading books. She was talented in needlepoint and knitting. She was an administrative assistant at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she met and married Stanley Wyman. She traveled with him until he passed away. Then, she traveled with friends from her knitting and yoga groups.

Throughout her life, she worked as a waitress in many resort communities, volunteered to assist a dentist working with indigent patients, did Treasurer’s work at the Old Cambridge Baptist Church (OCBC), was chairperson of the HomeOwners’ Association at Barrington Court and many other areas. There will be a memorial service for her in the Bigelow Chapel at the Mount Auburn Cemetery at 1:00 pm on Monday November 13, 2023 with burial to follow services..
