Gertrude M. (McCarthy) Averbach

AVERBACH, Gertrude M. (McCarthy) of Belmont, entered into rest in Avita in Needham on Friday, December 28, 2012.  She was 91 years of age.  Gertrude was born in Jamaica, New York and lived in the Belmont area for over 60 years. She graduated from Boston College Law School, passed the Bar, but never practiced in the profession. She was a former member of the Winchester Country Club, the Belmont Hill Club and she also taught english to the wives of foreigners at MIT for over 30 years. Gertrude was a daily communicant at St. Joseph Parish for many years until her health made it difficult to attend.  During World War II, she served in the WACS.  Wife of the late Benjamin L. Averbach.  Dear and devoted mother of Clare F. Pegeus and her husband, Dr. David of Villanova, PA; Anne L. Mott and her husband, Geoffrey of Lexington and Paul V. Averbach of West New York, NJ.  Sister of Joan Isaacson of NY.  Loving grandmother of Alexander and Christian Mott and Niall and Stefan Pegeus.  Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Gertrude’s  funeral Mass  in St. Joseph’s Church, 130 Common St., Belmont, Friday, Jan. 4 at 9 o’clock.  Interment St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Watertown.  Arrangements by Short, Williamson & Diamond Funeral Home, BELMONT.  swdfuneralhome.com
