Gloria V. (Van Nostrand) Witschbienben
Of Belmont, died peacefully November 10, 2013.
Gloria was the beloved mother of Carol Yelverton and her husband, Don Becker, and the late Claire Blake and her husband, Tom Blake; loving grandmother of Chris Brown, Nicole Conners, Matt Blake, Jay Blake, and Zac Brown. They all loved her and cared for her with sweet, genuine compassion.
Gloria was a passionate cook, a lover of Boxer dogs, a Julliard trained pianist and a devoted member of the Episcopal Church. She was also a member of both the Mayflower Society and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Gloria graduated from the University of Vermont with a degree in Economics in 1944. She earned a Masters degree from New York University in 1963 and was a teacher in the New York City school system for many years. She lived in Belmont for 13 years.
A memorial service will be held. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Washington National Cathedral, Attn: Development Office, 3101 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, Washington DC 20016. Arrangements by the Short, Williamson & Diamond Funeral Home, Belmont.
