James J. Noble, 83, of Lincoln, Ma, formerly of Belmont died Wednesday, June 6, 2023 at home in The Commons, Lincoln. Beloved husband of Beryl (Beadon) Noble. Born in New York City, he was the son of the late James J. Noble and Isabelle (Cirella) Noble. He graduated from Rancocas Regional High School in 1957 in Mt. Holly, New Jersey, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1961 with a degree in Chemical Engineering and holds a Ph.D in Chemical Engineering from MIT. He has held industrial positions with Cabot Corporation, Union Carbide Corporation, Standard Oil of California and numerous industrial consultancies. He taught at The Imperial College of Science and Technology in London, was Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering at MIT and Research Associate Professor in the Departments of Civil and Environmental and Chemical and Biological Engineering at Tufts University. He has published extensively and received extensive media exposure related to the solid waste crisis and had interactions with the EPA. He was an active club-level tennis player and cycled across the US in 1987 with 200 other cyclists raising funds for the American Lung Association. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Noble Milne, his nephew and nieces and their children.
