Mary Long Obituary

Mary Agnes Long, 92, life-long Belmont resident, passed away on Feb 15, 2025. In her younger years, Mary played field hockey and loved to ride horses. She worked as a telephone operator for Ma Bell, became a supervisor and was a Union Steward always fighting for the rights of co-workers. Mary was also active in St Luke’s parish and became President of Sodality while her children were at St Luke’s school. Although busy raising seven children, Mary also loved to participate in plays with the Regal Players in Waltham. When Mary retired from the phone company she worked as a receptionist for H&R Block til she was 86. Mary loved the social aspect of work.

Mary loved spending time on the Cape and summers in Kennebunk, Maine. Most of all Mary loved spending time with her 7 children, 14 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.

Our mother never missed a birthday or anniversary for any one of us and would often leave voicemails singing happy birthday if she couldn’t get us live. In her later years Mary enjoyed perusing and commenting on Facebook, loved watching Tom Sellick on Blue Bloods, and enjoyed a nightly blackberry brandy to help her sleep.

We all deeply miss her but have many, many wonderful loving memories of her and everything that she has done for us all. She was the glue that held us together. God bless her and God is lucky to have her back.
