Patricia Woolfrey Obituary

Patricia J. Woolfrey began her wonderful life in Marblehead, Massachusetts on November 1, 1922, and died peacefully on September 7, 2018.  After relocating to Belmont, Massachusetts, Pat met the love of her life, James H. Woolfrey, Sr., and they married in 1943. Jim predeceased her in 1994.

Together, they most loved spending time with family, especially the years spent camping with their five children, and in later years traveling in their trailer to campgrounds and beaches all along the eastern seaboard. While Jim fished, Pat expertly collected shells, rocks, driftwood, and sea glass which she later honed into jewelry and other remarkable craft projects. Pat and Jim especially looked forward to spending time at the Charlestown Breachway in Rhode Island and shared stories of cherished memories of their trips together.

Pat created many keepsakes with her needlework, painting, and all studio arts.  She was a skilled seamstress and clothing designer and enjoyed furniture refinishing and metal art crafting. There were always projects abound!

As a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Belmont, Pat lived her faith as a dear friend and showed kindness to all she met.  She shared her beautiful voice as a soloist, her talent as an accomplished pianist and sang at many weddings and special occasions in churches throughout the community.             As friends remember, “Her voice was like an angel.”

Pat was predeceased by two dear sons Lew H. Woolfrey, Sr., and James H. (Jay) Woolfrey, Jr.  She is survived by her devoted son Curtis and his wife Nancy (McGrath) of Leominster, Massachusetts, and their daughters, Bonnie, Pamela, and Emily who provided unwavering dedication during their daily visits and constant care and love.  Pat is also survived by her daughter-in-law Anne Marie (Carter) Woolfrey of Apex, North Carolina, who offered special countenance, kindness, and levity through consistent phone calls and cards.   Pat leaves her daughter, Marsha (the late John) Corwin, son Gordon and Elizabeth (Crowe) Woolfrey, Sr., of Cape Cod and sister-in-law Ruth Woolfrey of Summerville, South Carolina, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Pat is “Mema” to grandchildren James, III, and Jennifer Woolfrey, Faith (John) Kapolis, Heather Rogers, Lew Woolfrey, Jr., Brian (Jennifer Harbold) Woolfrey, Gordon Woolfrey, Jr., and great-grandchildren Penelope Ann and Miles Brian, Daren, Meghan and Allison.

Pat was employed by the communications department of McLean Hospital and at the Town of Belmont town offices. She cherished her many lifelong friends who kept in touch through visits, cards, and phone calls, and were always ready on November 1 to share in her memorable birthday celebrations which she greatly appreciated. Pat also enjoyed the company of friends she became acquainted with in more recent years with whom she shared jewelry making, crafts, bingo, birdwatching, and socials. Pat, with her warm, welcoming smile, is greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Belmont, 129 Lexington Street, at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 13.  Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne, Massachusetts.
