PICKERING, Winifred S. of Lexington, entered into rest on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was 97 years old. Born in Lebanon, Maine, Winifred graduated from Sanford High School, 1938; Urbana Jr. College, 1942; and New England Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing, 1951. She served honorably in the U. S. Navy as a nurse during World War II and was stationed at Pearl Harbor. A Registered Nurse, by profession, she worked at the Lahey Clinic in Brookline and for various doctors prior to her retirement. A devout Christian, Winifred was a longtime member of the Park Street Church in Boston. Beloved wife of the late George Douglas Pickering; dear and devoted mother of Ruth Pickering of Lexington, Janet Olson and her husband, Chuck of Lexington and Sharon Faust and her husband, Peter of Taunton. Sister of the late George Stuart, Jr., J. Brooks Stuart and Evelyn Torno. Loving grandmother of Elizabeth, Katherine, Caroline and David Olson. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Winifred’s funeral service in the Short, Williamson & Diamond Funeral Home, 52 Trapelo Rd., BELMONT, Tuesday, August 7 at 1:30 p.m. Interment with U.S. Navy Military Honors will conclude her services at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
